Transfer Applications

Most students hope to find their perfect college match the first time around — but sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. While that can feel frustrating or even discouraging, transferring can be a great opportunity. It offers a fresh start, a chance to recalibrate, and often opens doors to schools that may have been out of reach as a high school senior. And they’re not alone — college transfers are more common than most people realize. With the right support and a clearer sense of what they want, students can land somewhere that feels like home the second time around.

  • Transfer students want their next step to be intentional, so we guide them in exploring their long-term goals to ensure this move truly supports their academic and career aspirations.

  • When a student realizes their current college isn’t the right fit, it’s an opportunity to get clear about what does work for them. We support transfer students by first unpacking why the original school didn’t feel right. Was it the academics? The social culture? The size, location, or structure of the programs? Does the student want to change majors?

Through conversation, reflection, and questions, we help students define the kind of learning environment they’re seeking, the community they want, and the opportunities that align with their evolving goals.

From there, we build a new, focused list of transfer-friendly schools that make sense for them, not just on paper, but in lived experience.

  • Some colleges use the Transfer Common App and others have their own applications. We track everything from recommendations to test scores to interviews, essay, and deadlines and make sure everything is submitted on time.

Essay questions vary dramatically and not all schools ask for a personal statement. Above all, transfer applications require a clear articulation of a student’s goals and reasons for wanting to attend the transfer school.

  • Transfer interviews aren’t always required — and not all colleges offer them — but when they’re available, they’re a valuable opportunity that students should absolutely take advantage of. These conversations allow transfer applicants to provide context for their decision to switch schools, explain what they’re looking for in a new environment, and demonstrate how they’ll contribute to their next campus. A well-prepared interview can strengthen an application by adding a personal dimension and showing intentionality, maturity, and growth. We encourage students to prepare thoughtfully, reflect on their journey, and speak with clarity about their goals.
